Rhizome's 30th Anniversary Season Centers Preservation and Community

Rhizome, the platform for the preservation and presentation of born-digital art and culture, has announced its lineup for its 30th anniversary season. At its heart, the fall program is anchored by the organization’s annual benefit on September 23 at Capitale in New York City, honoring artist and Indigenous futurist Skawennati and generative art innovator Erick Calderon, founder of the Art Blocks platform, alongside the relaunch of ArtBase, Rhizome’s digital art archive.

The season also includes “WEBSITES WEBSITES WEBSITES!,” a benefit exhibition during Armory Week that celebrates the website as an artistic medium, organized with ARTXCODE; a December event and publication titled “Long-term Memory: A Short History of the Internet According to rhizome.org;” the 13th annual Microgrants open call; an expanded education program; and a new City Fellows initiative, with Bangalore’s Upendra Vaddadi named as the inaugural fellow. “From our roots as a mailing list, we’ve now been building our community and infrastructure over decades,” said Rhizome Executive Director Michael Connor. “This fall—especially with the ArtBase relaunch—we will see some of the results of that long, patient work.”
