Southern Guild Makes a Splashy Entrance in Los Angeles

For the past 16 years, the gallery and artist residency Southern Guild has been South Africa-based. That changed on Feb. 22 when it opened the doors to its new Melrose Hill outpost. The inaugural exhibitions—Mother Tongues, a group show featuring 26 artists from Africa, and a solo show of sculptures by Zizipho Poswa—drew art-world notables to the West Coast in advance of this week’s Frieze L.A. art fair. Guests took the opportunity to catch up over wine from IBest Wines, founded by collector Ingrid Best. Notables in attendance included Trevyn McGowan, Julian McGowan, Tyler Mitchell, Rich Mnisi, Andrea Delph, Eva Seta, Jacqueline Hamilton, Martin Magner, and more. Photo credit: Jojo Korsh/BFA.
