The Stars of New York’s Culture Scene Came Out for the Whitney Gala

On May 20, the Whitney Museum of American Art honored Amy Sherald, Barbara Haskell, and Richard DeMartini during its annual gala. Held in the lobby and 7th floor galleries of the Renzo Piano-designed building that has hosted it for the past decade, the museum raised more than $7.7 million to benefit its exhibitions and public-facing programing, as well as the the Barbara Haskell American Fellows Legacy Fund and its free admissions initiative. An opening cocktail hour with a DJ set by Natasha Diggs gave way to a seated dinner, catered by Olivier Cheng, designed by David Stark Design and Production, and with remarks by director Scott Rothkopf.
Notables in attendance included Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Jeffrey Gibson, Teresita Fernández, Camille Henrot, Jesse Krimes, Paul Arnhold, Wes Gordon, Matthew Marks, Jordan Roth, and Darren Walker. Photo credit: Jason Lowrie/BFA

Avant-Garde Artistry Shines Through at the Kitchen’s Spring Gala

To have an ear to the ground on the art world’s most exciting goings-on is to understand why the Kitchen’s 2025 spring gala was the place to be last Thursday night. The evening, which was MC’d by choreographer and Balletcore founder Angela Trimbur, honored a slate of trailblazing leaders in the arts including Lucinda Childs, Wu Tsang, Jamie Singer Soros, and Robert Soros. The benefit, which was held along the banks of the Hudson River at City Winery, featured performances by dancer Alysia Johnson and R&B singer serpentwithfeet, and remarks by the poet and scholar Fred Moten and choreographer Elizabeth Streb. Notables in attendance included Isolde Brielmaier, Joan Jonas, Jasmine Wahi, Legacy Russell, Miles Greenberg, Simone Leigh, Courtney Willis Blair, Baseera Khan, and more. Krewe Eyewear’s Celebratory “Krawfish” Boil in Support of Cancer Research

Channeling the New Orleans origins of Krewe founder Stirling Barrett, the independent eyewear brand hosted a third annual “Krawfish” boil in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. On Gansevoort St, in front of the Krewe flagship, hundreds of celebrants gathered to delight in live jazz music, drag performances, a flash tattoo bar, and more than 2,000 pounds of Louisiana crawfish. This typically Southern shellfish was served alongside fried chicken, oysters from Fish Cheeks, Michelada cocktails infused with New Orleans’ own Crystal Hot Sauce, and a selection of natural wines. Through the brand’s nonprofit division, The Krewe Foundation, a portion of all ticket sales went to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in support of research and care. Guests included Chané Husselmann, Jervaris Hendrix, Greivy, BeauJangless, Karina Ruiz, Jillian Bruno, Hope Berry, Rachel Staehling, Rickie Ashman, and more.
