An Atmosphere of Contemporary Grandeur at The Lake Como Edition

Hotel iconography is etched into the shoreline of Lake Como, with storied properties situated in and alongside historic, picturesque towns. New to the tony banks, and providing a perspective (both literally and metaphorically) previously unseen from the destination, The Lake Como Edition imbues a 19th-century palazzo with a more minimal, contemporary palette as it extends a cultural invitation to guests and locals alike.

The recent opening follows a four-year renovation. Now, 148 guest rooms (including 24 suites, two penthouses, and one private villa) bask in the gentle grandeur of European white oak floors, ivory plaster walls, and Calacatta Turquoise marble accents. These cocooning accommodations are elevated by the hotel’s sophisticated wellness and culinary comforts—from science-led treatments at The Longevity Spa to the gastronomic collaboration with three-Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco. With the Edition brand, as well, comes a commitment to social engagement and cultural enrichment.

Ultimately, the atmosphere is born from a dialogue between past and present. “The 19th century palazzo offered a powerful starting point—its scale, its rhythm, its sense of permanence,” George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of Edition Hotels, tells Surface. “Those qualities remain. What we’ve introduced is a quieter layer.” As such, original architectural elements like vaulted ceilings and classical proportions come to life.

“That same thinking carries through to the experience,” Fleck continues, with “spaces that feel both intimate and social. From the Lobby Bar to the terraces, everything is designed to feel connected to the setting, not separate from it. Edition properties are designed as social spaces, not just places to stay, and that comes through in how the hotel is experienced across the day and into the evening, as well.”

Perhaps most successful is the relationship between the hotel and the lake. “Access is immediate—whether through the private dock, the floating pool, or the way the public spaces open directly onto the water,” Fleck explains. “The lake becomes part of daily life, not just the view.” That said, the view from guest rooms (whether by window or restored French balconies) provides an unyielding magnetism from early morning glances to pensive reflections after sundown. With the town of Bellagio visible in the distance (and a quick boat ride away), there is an interconnectedness both real and vividly imagined.
